What a win…what a win. Last night was the playoff game that we have been waiting for from this group. Ibaka was blocking and dunking on everyone, Norman cranked up the dial, DeRozan scoring at will, the rotation of Tucker/Carroll disrupting the Bucks, and even Cory Joseph looked great despite having the flu. It might take Dwane Casey some time, but every series he finds an adjustment when it matters the most. If I’m Casey, after this series I’m trying to Norman Powell extended for saving my job. Sure there are some things that keep me up at night. Lowry’s back being so bad that he can’t sit on the bench, but has to lie down on the hardwood is something I mentally need to block out. I can’t handle going to Cleveland with Irving and not having the Lowman at 100%. And if anyone who speaks Lithuanian out there can tell JV to be a MAN IN THE POST. That would calm my fears down a lot. But who cares right? Lets drink in last nights dunk city.
So last night during the Raps huge Dunk-a-thon win over the Bucks. There was some dude court-side wearing quite the shirt. Now as a man who knows class, sophistication, and business, this isn’t your usual court-side attire. The rare times that I leech on with someone who has the floor seats. I’m bringing the heat. That means my hair is on point, my clothes are crisp, and my shoes are Italian. People look at me like I’m showtime Pat Riley, or that I’m Gosling’s twin who couldn’t make it in LA. Sitting court-side to me is the closet that I’ve been to walking down a runway. But now send nudes guy has ruined that. I can’t look at those seats the same after such a loser move that this guy pulled. I’m not even thinking about how big of a win last night was. I’ve been walking around all day going “how ugly is send nudes guy? he has got to be ugly rocking that…and facing the other way…right?” I think after today I went from a court-side guy to a boxlife guy after seeing MLSE let this happen.
Okay so there are two things in this video that struck me. The first is the obvious one. The title of this video is “Toronto Tim Horton’s fight over ten cents.” If you’re in a restaurant and a man is willing to make a scene by screaming about a dime, it’s probably not worth the argument. Just give up the dime. But if that man is willing too not only make a scene, but also smash the glass casing, and then eat a Boston Cream with shards of glass like he’s David Blaine. FOR THE LOVE OF PETE GIVE UP THE DIME! I’m pretty sure at the point he picked up that baton looking thing, I would have been snow shoveling all the dimes I could at this bro. Some things in life I can handle taking the L, this is 1000% one of those situations.
The second thing I noticed, and really is the outrageous crime in this video. Is that the guy filming has outside food inside the Tim’s. Like what is this? Every time I’ve brought in something in and decided it would be nice with a coffee, I always get the “no outside food speech.” And then get forced to buy a crappy bagel that is never toasted. No matter how many times you ask, that thing is coming out warm and drenched in whatever they call butter. But this dude is peeling an avocado right on the table, and whippin up some Greek sandwich in plain sight really grinds my gears. Sure maybe at this point it isn’t on the minds of the staff. But you can’t make exceptions, either your allowed outside food in or your not. This rule not being enforced might finally make me a Starbucks guy after all.
Look let’s be honest here. This series has not gone the way that we have wanted it too. It’s been full of sporadic defense, horrible turnovers, and just unbelievable horrid shooting from the Raptors. Until the second half of game four on Saturday, I actually was beginning to question if this team was giving up. Like I couldn’t believe that the most well-built team in Raptors history was getting worked by these young Bucks. But then finally DeRozan, Ibaka, and Norman Powell put the team on their back. My mood went from a guy who was melting in his chair, to this…
I was fired up! Wait! Still is fired up! I really thought about grilling some venison, and firing off some Eric Foreman memes at the glove state. But then I saw something that made my heart grow like the Grinch’s in that movie at the end of the game.
Yes! I absolutely LOVE THAT MOVE! Look there’s nothing better in sports than the shit talking that fans do with one another. I love the confidence by this little town in Wisconsin. It’s what makes the playoffs awesome. All these little dairy farmers finally getting some glow for something other than cheese is cute. It’s so adorable, it makes me want to pat them on the head and say “good job, your now finally big boys now.” It’s not always easy to get our busy metropolises attention. But as my boy Chaz Palminteri says “now youse can’t escape us.” If I wasn’t confident before game 4, I now am super confident. Were playing this bad and it’s STILL even???? HA! LETS GO!
Update: Confidence down a little bit
Update #2: Confidence is dropping dramatically…(brewing large amounts of coffee and roaming the streets to reassure self)
P.S. Did the MLSE fire all their graphic design people? These shirts are so brutal this season. Seriously what is this?
Well I don’t think I’ve ever been so wrong about a series in my life. Yes, I am aware this is far from over. But I didn’t give these guys a chance. I was expecting a sweep, with this Capitals team being so loaded and this Leafs team being so young, small, and injury riddled.
Now for years, this team has been so fun to “hate watch” as a non leafer in Toronto. They were confident, untalented, absurd, and overpaid. Fans threw everything from jerseys to waffles on the ice. But one guy who always cracked me up was Kadri. The guy just wants to win and doesn’t care how he does it. Game 3 showed off peak Kadri. It’s like a switch goes off in this guy’s head, and this time he decided to become a missile screaming at Orpik. It’s laugh out loud funny. It’s wild stuff like this that makes playoff hockey so great.
Still…Capitals in 6.
Well it’s finally here people. The day that we have all been waiting for since last summer when LeBron ripped our hearts out. It’s time for another journey towards the that weird looking Larry O’Brein Trophy. It’s not gonna be easy folks. Were are going to have to go through the Bucks, Cavs, Celtics, or Warriors/Rockets/Spurs. But you know what? THAT IS WHAT I WANT. To be the best, you have to DESTROY the rest of the NBA. It could be the greatest run in basketball postseason history in my own mind. But before we start getting ahead of ourselves here, let’s do a quick breakdown of the first series we encounter.
The Milwaukee Bucks are the first bunch of guys up. Now normally if they were playing anyone other than the Raptors I’d be pulling for them. They are a young team with one of the most exciting players to watch in Giannis Antetokounmpo. If there was another team I’m hesitant to face in the first round, it’s the Bucks. Antetokounmpo lives up to his name as the “Greek Freak.” He led the entire Bucks team in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals. He can play any position 1-5, and is a match-up nightmare with the ability to take over a game himself. With just him, the Bucks have a shot in this series. But Antetokounmpo has shown that he struggles from the perimeter. This is where the Raptors revamped front-court has the big advantage over the Bucks. The consistent rotation of Carroll, Tucker, and Ibaka, forcing him outside allows the Raptors to take advantage of the rest of the floor. The back-court of Lowry and DeRozan will have the space to score in this match-up. If both of these guys struggle against the duo of Brogdon and Snell, this series could go six, heck even seven games. I really believe that this is a scenario that this team can’t afford with Cleveland in the next round.
But the Raptors in general are just too complete of a team. Their bench is better, and deeper than anything they’ve ever had before in the playoffs. Outside of Giannis, the Bucks lack scoring. It also doesn’t help that the Raptors after obtaining Ibaka, and Tucker, became one of the elite defensive teams in the NBA. The Raptors should win this series in five games with how much better they are at both ends of the floor. But if Jonas Valanciunas can finally dominate inside, a possible sweep is not out of the question.
So with that explained it’s time to fire up the Future/Panda mix!
It’s been awhile, but playoff hockey is finally back in the city. As a person who isn’t a Leaf fan, and usually can’t stand the maniacs of “Leaf Nation.” I’ll even admit that it is nice for them to get this. After years of mediocrity, and an UNBELIEVABLE tank job last season, the Leafs stunned everyone (including myself) at somehow getting here. But unfortunately for them, they get to take on the President Trophy winning Capitals.
Now simply put the Capitals are bigger, stronger, faster, more skilled, and have the better goaltender. They are a complete team. It’s the best team that Ovechkin has ever had in his time in Washington. There isn’t a position on paper where the Leafs have the upper hand. It also appears that the Leaf defense is also going to be without one of their better dmen in Nikita Zaitsev too.
If Freddy Anderson’s job didn’t already look impossible, the fact that Roman Polak is expected to be on the first line highlights how mammoth of a challenge this is. But! The Capitals have blown series that they were expected to win…practically every year. President Trophy winners have been taken out by teams in the first round before. It also helps that the Leafs playing with house money. They aren’t expected to be here, they have absolutely nothing to lose. At this point if they stole a single game in this series, I could see Washington fans questioning if Trotz is the right guy behind the bench. All of these factors are why I think it will be a quick 4-0 sweep by the Caps. They are just simply too talented and deep of a roster. Sure the Leafs proved me and a ton of people wrong with making it to the dance. It just isn’t going to happen in this series. I just hope they don’t get dummied too bad, otherwise we will all be subjected to the lame talking point of “learning how to win through loss” all summer here.
Enjoy the hype video though!
Awful news to see trending on twitter. But unfortunately another Hollywood Legend and Icon has left us. Don Rickles was the king of insult comedy. It didn’t matter who you were, what you did, or where you came from. Don Rickles would treat everyone the same with his shtick. It was quick, lethal, and funny. Very funny.
I could go on and on about all the performances, films, and of course Tonight Show appearances. But it wouldn’t do the man justice. So instead, please soak in his greatness with these clips.
Toronto Star- Any concern about Kyle Lowry needing plenty of time getting used to playing NBA games again was unfounded. Playing in his first game after missing more than five weeks because of surgery on his right wrist, Lowry was outstanding, scoring 27 points and adding 10 assists in 42 minutes Wednesday night as the Raptors rallied from a 20-point first-half deficit to beat the Detroit Pistons 105-102 in their final visit to the Palace of Auburn Hills.
The LowMan is back people. I’m still so amped up after last nights game. The grin on my face this morning, hasn’t been this noticeable since the Ibaka trade. The rest of the Eastern Conference has to be shaking in their boots after this game. Sure most people are talking about LeBron straight up bullying the Celtics in Boston last night. But Lowry who hasn’t played since the All-Star game, casually putting up a double-double while leading the Raps in a twenty point comeback is amazing. I couldn’t have asked for a better game to put my mind at ease. Going into it I was like a worried mother asking will he find his rhythm? What if this is being rushed? Will the wrist still affect his shot? Can he play aggressive like he did before this injury? All of that was answered after the first half. My only problem was that he didn’t announce his return to the NBA like John Wick.
BRING ME ATLANTA!! BRING ME BOSTON!!! BRING ME CLEVELAND!!!! WITH OR WITHOUT KEVIN LOVE!!!
I know this is late, and the game has technically already started. But finally we get to see what this team was supposed to look like after the trade deadline. For once the most complete team in the entire existence of the Raptors is finally on the court. I don’t care if we lose or even with this game. They need to develop that cohesiveness for the playoff run. Tonight is just the beginning of a long journey. Lets Go.
